Be Aware of Phishing Text Message Scam

October 28, 2021

Please be aware of a phishing text message scam that some La Cap members are reporting. Members are receiving text message instructing them that their La Cap debit card has been blocked/lost and to call a number. When this number is called, they hear a recording stating their debit card has been blocked and instructs them to type in their full 16 digit card number.

This is a fraudulent attempt to collect your personal information. DO NOT CALL the number on the card or provide your information.

Should you happen to receive a text message like this, please know that this is NOT from La Capitol Federal Credit Union, or any of our staff. It is vitally important to keep your personal information, credit and debit card numbers, log-ins, and passwords safe, secure, and private.

La Cap will NEVER contact you directly to request any of your account information, including:

  • Social Security Number
  • Credit or Debit Card numbers
  • Security Code or CVV
  • PIN – Personal Identification Number
  • Address
  • Date of Birth
  • Online Banking Login Information
  • Verification Codes
  • Passwords

If someone contacts you and requests this information or your account details by phone or text, hang up immediately and do not respond.
